How Do I Choose the Best Java® Development Software?

Java® development software, also known as Java® frameworks, are programs made to simplify and add to the Java® coding experience. Using plugins with additional functionality does this, as does including coding sets that auto-generate code based on the programmer’s need. Each type of Java® development software is different, and the best is determined by looking at a few factors. The software's suitability for certain industries, whether the architecture can be expanded, whether it has an online community and documentation as well as the extensiveness of its features must be checked before settling down with one type of software.

Each type of Java® development software has a "leaning," which means that its functions make it better for one industry over another. Java® is used to make general applications, Web-based applications, business intelligence applications and so on. Each programmer has a different need for the software, so it usually has functions that lean toward that need more than other ones. Choosing one that fits the industry of the programmer will prove better than software that leans toward another one.

Architecture refers to the standards and coding programs the Java® development uses, in addition to using Java® itself. Some development software will incorporate only industry-accepted coding standards, and others use standards that might be more efficient, but not for business purposes. At the same time, some development architectures can be expanded or changed, but others cannot. For the former, this depends on whether the programmer is working in a business environment or working alone to make applications. The latter depends on whether the programmer is happy with the current architecture, or whether he or she wants to periodically upgrade the architecture.

Documentation and community are important to any program, but because some Java® development software is made by a small team with only a few followers and no documentation, this can become a serious problem. What the term "documentation" refers to is a manual that tells the user how to implement the software's plugins and coding generation features. In lieu of documentation, or to supplement it, a passionate online community can help answer the programmer’s questions. If neither one is available, then the programmer will need to sit down and try to figure out the system without help, which can lead to hours or days of little productivity.

The features included in the Java® development software can make a big difference and must be taken into account. Some types of development software are extensive and will handle most of the coding, and others are basic and can do only a few coding procedures. Along with the coding generation, the programmer must find out whether the software is just an action system or whether it can be extended.
