The $1 US Dollar (USD) bill is the most commonly circulated US currency bill, with more than 10 billion bills in circulation. Next is the $100 USD bill at almost 9 billion bills circulating, followed by 7.4 billion $20 USD bills. The least circulated US currency bill is the $2 USD bill, which has fewer than 1 million in circulation and has not been printed since 2003.

More about US currency bills:

  • All US currency bills except the $1 USD and $2 USD bills were redesigned from 2002-2012 in order to help prevent counterfeiting. The $100 USD bill is the most counterfeited currency bill worldwide, and the $20 USD bill is the most counterfeited in the US.
  • The largest US bill ever printed was the $100,000 USD bill, from December 1934 to January 1935, and it featured the portrait of President Woodrow Wilson. The bill was used only by Federal Reserve Banks and was not publicly circulated.
  • Each US paper bill is made of 75% cotton and 25% linen and weighs about 0.35 ounces (1 gram).
